You can even reference an image to pick out its color from specific spot.

Marimekko is a Finnish design coporation that is famous for its colorful pattern design for fabric. It makes domestic products from its branded fabrics or the pattern design, such as bag, clothing, ceramic, bathroom and kitchen collections. Each pattern or collection is designed by mostly Finnish designers. Learning the design concept and reading specific designer's vision is a good exercise to inspire and generate your own.

Scale, Size, Repetition, Movement and Composition /////////////////// Chris Jordan's Running the Numbers series continues with new work, including Lightbulbs. This photo collage represents the 320,000 lightbulbs that equal the number of kilowatt hours of electricity wasted in the US per minute, due to inefficient household electricity use. Jordan's work is a frightening wake-up call that is based on waste, consumerism, planned obsolescence and the ravages to our environment. The work consists of large, detailed prints put together by using thousands of tiny photographs. The importance of the individual among the collective is made visually clear, and the sheer overwhelming nature of these problems cannot be escaped. Use salvage materials to make a house. Rearrange broken pieces to create a roof with characters. The builder, Mr. Phillips, calls it Storybook house, I think it is Mymble's house, a character from the Moomin, by the Finnish illustrator and writer Tove Jansson. I grew up watching the Moomins and Mymble is always the mischief in the show and annoyingly sly. I dun like her and she reminds me of me! In the next Photoshop exercise, we'll learn how to use bit and pieces of images to create a visual whole. Much like what Mr. Phillips did with unwanted picture frames corners, broken glasses or tiles to assemble a rustic mural, we'll break apart what we scanned to reconstruct a simple scene of 1 of 4 seasons.

This site is a selection of "art" related news. Art is indeed a big word that needs quotation and explanation. As one can immediately relate art to "beautiful things made by artists", I see it as an aesthetic of life, inquiry of our environment and general merriment by anything that flares "STATE OF THE ART". Since I'm teaching Foundation Computer Art (149) and Computer Art (349) at California State University, Long Beach, these entries serve as inspiration, expanded knowledge and assignment related items for those classes.
