As I am studying master in a city far away from home, I myself am being in a changing point and a new starting point, which makes me feel unstable and unknown to the environment around me. The process of getting used to the new environment is a journey of self-defining and self-locating. During this process, I am experiencing the stability and vibrations of this city.For the first layer in the meaning of ‘stability and vibration’, it’s about the physical movements and shakes. There will be vibrations when the alarm clock rings though it’s minor. Precise equipment and facilities are used to monitor the heartbeats, earthquakes and wind turbulence. As an individual in the situation stated above, being a new comer, I am going to pick a kind of public transportations that I take daily, for example buses, tubes and trains, as spaces to test out the vibrations. Thousands of people are commuting through public transportations every day and they are experiencing these vibrations along the journey. I plan to visualize these shakes by holding an ink pen in hand to trace the movements of buses and tubes. Moreover, stability and vibration can be referred to social events like the riots that took place in early August and the National Strike in November. These are big historical events and moments. They are vibrations of the society and social classes. This is the deeper meaning of ‘stability and vibration.’ This can be developed into a further research topic and project that relates to the social problems.Besides the individual project, I am also doing a collaborating work with Dongdong in the project of ‘Jessica’. This is also relevant to my project, which is about defining identity. The story for ‘Jessica’ is about a mental patient who is in love with his split personality named Jessica. He loved Jessica so much that he kills her, which means he kills himself. The above is about the project that I am planning to realize. My research will be practical based. I will have most of the projects and experiments done on public transportations, like buses and tubes. Images and videos may be included as ways of presenting the idea. I am still doing research on references and contexts that related to the project.
