Volunteer at the Soil Born Farms
I encourage and guide the middle school students or high school students to be more aware of fruits and vegetables. I lead them to have a trip around the farm and assist them in cooking activities and gardening activates. Examples are making garden salads from fresh vegetables in farm and making vegetable fried rice out of the fresh vegetables. I demonstrate my leadership skills and ability to approach children from different ethnicity background as a friendly guidance rather than a service provider. I will continue to be a volunteer of Soil Born Farms until I graduated.

Research Intern at the Laboratory under Professor Bo Lonnerdal, University of California, Davis
I work under a Ph.D student, Rulan Jiang, to help in her project on researching protein lactoferrin’s role in boosting intestinal growth in infants. I isolate the protein from human breast milk and crypt cells in small intestines from 10 days rates, and use a self-made DNA gel to analysis the results. I also expose the membranes in dark room to further verify the experimental results. I also helped in breeding of the experimental rats, separating the males and females when needed to.
